Byzantine icons

The Byzantine icons seems the most holy and sacred. This is from St. Catherine's monastery in Sinai.

Divna Ljubojevik

I just discovered this wonderful singer on YouTube. She sings Byzantine Orthodox sacred songs. Usually those hymns are sung by rumbling voiced monks. Her voice is angelic.

Giovanni Bellini

Pieta, 1505. Bellini was a Venetian painter, like Carpaccio, I see the same stillness and airlessness in their paintings. This isn't a criticism, it's just how they strike me. Bellini's famous pupils were Giorgione and Titian.

That's Church

I don't know if you've ever been to a black church. It's pretty exciting and emotional. I used to go to one all the time, when I lived near Richmond, CA. If you go to about the middle of the video, people are shouting and getting the holy ghost.

Michelangelo Buonarotti

Inside the Sistine Chapel..., originally uploaded by unicornia1.

Michelangelo was so passionate and emotional. I love the mannerist style. The reaching of the two hands toward each other is a pinnacle of humanist iconograhy. This gorgeous photo was blogged from flickr.
