Pandora Radio (not related to the photo)

OK, I got a picture that says Pandora on it, but this isn't about that. I'm probably the last person to know about Pandora. It's a free web radio where you tell them a song or artist you like, and they find that artist plus related ones. This creates your own customized radio stations. And it's free!! There are also shared stations where someone sets up a station that you can tune into. Right now I'm listening to "Burning Spear Radio" by Patty. Pandora is listenable on iphone and itouch ipods. Fantastic public service.

100 years ago

This fantastic site, http://www.shorpy.com/, has vintage photos of the USA early this century. The images are hi-res and perfect quality. It also lists the photographer and/or collection the photo is from. This one is called "Fifth Avenue Sunday", ca. 1913.

Two great sites

The Rare Book Room:

Over the last ten years, a company called "Octavo" embarked on digitally photographing some of the world ’s great books from some of the greatest libraries. These books were photographed at very high resolution (in some cases at over 200 megabytes per page).

This site contains all of the books (about 400) that have been digitized to date. These range over a wide variety of topics and rarity. The books are presented so that the viewer can examine all the pages in medium to medium-high resolution.
